Weight Loss Surgery - so called bariatric surgery - is a rapidly developing area of surgery. These are not merely cosmetic procedures but operations on the stomach and sometimes also the intestines. These operations are performed by minimally invasive, laparoscopic so called "keyhole" surgery. The most common procedures are Gastric Banding and Gastric Vertical Sleeve Resection. Weight Loss Surgery helps obese people to limit substantially the amount of  food consumed and therefore leads to significantly better long term results in weight reduction and in the treatment of weight related co-morbidities when compared with conservative methods of therapy.
